DREAM featuring Neil Frances

Directed by Emmanuelle Pickett & Harrison Schaaf

'Dream' is a voyage across various corners and cultural epochs of Los Angeles. Directed by Emmanuelle Pickett & Harrison Schaaf, with original music by Neil Frances, this piece takes us on a journey high above the city’s skyscrapers and down through its streets and under passes. An uncanny combination of melancholic and romantic gestures permeate our senses enhanced by 8D sound as we see pre- and post-pandemic images splash across the screen. We are reminded of how Dodger Stadium once heaved with fans, we see the Compton Cowboys parading through the streets, we witness the lonely stoicism of the Bonaventure Hotel and we are swept along with the lovers and street vendors, the protestors and the homeless. The powerful ebb and flow of Neil Frances’ music pulses through every image and seems to give the city a new, reaffirming heartbeat. As the melody soothes like a lullaby, the lyrics remind us of raw truths in fantasy land, 'and I am no better at fusing the dream, I’m given the milk but can’t rise like the cream'." --Lottie Moore, dublab; Max Rippon and Kate Emery, Quarantine Gallery
